There are cute little monsters in the neighborhood.
These are on the stone pillars of the Nishi-Honganji temple’s Mission station which was built by Chuta Ito (1867-1954),
an architect and architectural historian of Meiji era.
If you have visited too many temples during your stay in Kyoto and your memory gets mixed up, I would like to invite you to go and see the lovely monsters.
The strange mixture of Indian, Islamic, Japanese and Western appearance and the mismatch with the surroundings is also interesting.
Attention! The building is usually not open to visitors.
But in Tokyo, you can meet some other monsters inside the TSUKIJI HONGANJI TEMPLE, which was also built by Chuta!
